Who We Are

We specialize exclusively in museum planning and architecture.

As Museum Architects & Planners, VernerJohnson weaves together all aspects of the museum’s needs and objectives. Our passion lies in creating successful museums that leave lasting impressions on their visitors.

What We Do

We plan and design special places that educate and inspire.

VernerJohnson has developed a museum planning process that optimizes the visitor’s experience and sets the organization up for future success. From project inception to inauguration, we help guide our clients through the complexities of creating and reinvigorating their facilities. For more than forty years, we have been collaborating with our clients to plan and design innovative and successful museums of every kind, resulting in more than 200 projects in our portfolio ranging in size from 7,500 to 1,200,000 square feet.

Whether it is a startup, expansion, or revitalization, VernerJohnson implements unique solutions that best fit each project’s specific needs. Our strength lies in creating educational hubs that ignite curiosity, foster learning, and connect people across cultures.

Proven Success

Our museums collectively welcome over 13 million visitors annually. Five VernerJohnson projects were named “Best Museums for 2026” by USA Today and a Forbes survey listed five among the top 25 most visited museums in the United States.

Our success isn’t just about annual attendance; it’s about sustained impact that educates, inspires, and garners community engagement and financial support.

Global Reach

From the US to India, Hong Kong to Saudi Arabia, our planning and designs resonate internationally. Notably, we’ve collaborated with the Smithsonian Institution on 19 of their Washington, DC museums and we developed a reorganization plan for the iconic Louvre Museum in Paris.
