VernerJohnson selected to design National Museum of Natural History in Delhi, India.

VernerJohnson has teamed with Arch-En Design of Delhi in submitting qualifications and a concept proposal for a new 340,000 square-foot natural history museum in the heart of New Delhi. In November of 2014, our team presented to the selection committee for this major National Museum. In January, our team seas announced as the winnersof this international competition. A project kick-off meeting was held on February 5th.

The 6.5 acre site is adjacent to the Pirana Qila, also known as the Old Fort. This 14th century complex is one the oldest forts in Delhi.

The museum is envisioned to achieve net-zero energy usage. A public park space surrounds the structure. The land is bermed against the exterior walls to meld the building into the landscape and minimize heat gain. A continuous photovoltaic canopy shades an open-air interior courtyard and generates power for the museum. Two levels of parking are buried below the building to maximize green space and minimize urban heat island effects.
