Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, IL Architect for new building
This University arts center serves as a focus for the arts for a seven-county area in central Illinois. The building massing and interior spaces are conceived as a grouping of 20-ft.-square volumetric cubes organized so that the building's stepped west perimeter follows a diagonal walkway bisecting the square site. Skylight monitors with integrated artificial lighting provide completely controllable natural and artificial light. Twenty-five years after our design for the original building was built, we designed and built an expansion that included a multi-use lobby/gallery/lecture hall, along with additional classroom and electronic gallery areas.
