Architect for new building
Bridging across an eight-lane highway and a four-lane city street, the exuberant, futuristic design of the 182,000 sq.ft. facility expanded the institution and immediately became one of the most heavily-visited science centers in the world. The IMAX theater's 100-ft. diameter exterior dome, the two-story glass-enclosed aeronautics and aerospace exhibits, and the telescoping 360-ft.-long bridge establish the building as a major architectural icon in the city.
