As the only architectural firm in the country specializing exclusively in the planning and design of museums, E. Verner Johnson and Associates understands what it takes for a museum to succeed. Last year, over 13 million people visited our museums.

Unsurpassed Experience

Since 1965, E. Verner Johnson and Associates has been helping our clients plan and design innovative and successful museums. With over 200 projects in our portfolio, we have planned or designed more museums than any other architectural firm. Our projects have included every type of museum, and have ranged in size from 7,500 to 1,250,000 square feet. Our international work includes projects in Europe, Hong Kong, China, Dubai, New Zealand, South America, and the Caribbean, with clients including the Smithsonian Institution, for whom we have provided planning and design services for over 20 years, the Louvre Museum in Paris, and the Urban Council in Hong Kong.

A History of Innovation

The breadth and depth of our experience has given us a detailed understanding about how museums really work. We apply this constantly evolving knowledge to the planning and design of each new project and have consistently helped our clients achieve innovative solutions to the issues they face. Consequently, many of the museums that we have planned and designed are among the most successful and highly attended in the world. With projects in our portfolio ranging from expansion projects for regional museums to a complete reorganization plan for the Louvre Museum in Paris, our museum expertise is recognized around the world.

Our Staff

Our careers are dedicated to serving the needs of museums. We maintain a staff of around 20 people at our offices in Boston. Our turnover rate has been extremely low, resulting in a highly experienced staff with an average of 18 years of museum experience. Within our firm, museological specializations include areas such as collections storage and care, exhibition lighting, living exhibits, large format theaters, and media and technology.
